THE STORY BEHIND THE WEBSITE

For the love of home.

For the love of home.

A love letter to Misima and her people.

Rebekah Norman (née Mackenzie), a proud member of the Mogi Peko clan of Nulia and Hinauta villages on Misima Island, created this website as a love letter to her island and its people—those at home and those living far away.

Born and raised in Milne Bay, Rebekah hopes this website will be a vessel to guide her daughter and wantoks home, strengthening their connection to the people, places and stories that shape their identity.

At its heart is a commitment to amplify the voices of home. It is a place for Misimans to tell their own stories, share their knowledge and show the world what makes their island special. It aims to create pathways to markets and opportunities, connecting local people, businesses, makers and guides with those who value what they have to offer.

It also celebrates Misimans who have achieved remarkable things, both at home and around the world. By sharing their journeys and contributions, we hope to inspire the next generation and honour the many ways our people carry Misima with them.

Above all, this is a place where the people of Misima can see themselves, hear their voices and help shape how their home is known to the world.

Part of a wider story.

This project extends the Milne Bay website, with a dedicated home for Misima’s photographs and voices. The founding image collection was supplied by Tāmati Norman / PNG Direct.

A living record, built together.

We want village memories, family stories, local achievements and community perspectives to sit alongside the landscapes. Submitted stories are reviewed, and publication permissions are confirmed with contributors.
