Whether you left yesterday, grew up across the sea, or are only beginning to learn your family’s story — welcome home.
Panuwa · place, village, home.
A word from the Misima Dictionary, carrying a connection between place and belonging.
For the daughters and sons of Misima.
You may know every bend of a village path. You may know the island through a mother’s voice, a grandfather’s memories or a photograph kept far from home. There is room here for all those ways of belonging.
This is a place to reconnect with people, culture and identity. To find names for familiar faces. To ask questions. To celebrate where your family comes from and share it with the next generation.
Honouring our matriarchs and maternal lines.
Misima’s matrilineal heritage gives the maternal line a central place in descent and belonging. We honour the matriarchs whose lives and knowledge connect families across generations, and recognise the women and men who lead and serve their communities. Daughters, sons and grandchildren all have a place within this living story.

A village name. A canoe journey. A garden. Christmas singing. The person who taught you something you still carry. Share a memory, help identify a photograph or tell us about someone whose story deserves to be remembered.
You are welcome to learn and reconnect at your own pace. Families and customary custodians remain the people to speak with about lineage, land and the knowledge entrusted to them.
